Local Activities

Places we recommend and like to visit...

You do not have to get into your car to experience the countryside here. With many bridle paths and quiet roads you can experience countryside rambles from our doorstep.

However if you do need to explore Devon more- there is plenty to see. Our nearest beaches- Maidencombe 5 min drive, Shaldon 10 min drive-where you can take the very short ferry trip over to Teignmouth. There are various fishing boat trips from Teignmouth. And there is also a Torquay to Brixham ferry. Also Torquay and Paignton beaches within a 10-15 minute drive.

Brixham harbour is quite a fun day out for the family, and the outdoor lido is fantastic- sea water lido right at the waters edge- Shoalstone Pool (shoalstonepool.com) and its free.

Looking for adventure and love water sports?  Try Coasteering- a short 5 minute drive away- rocksolidcoasteering.uk

Horse riding/pony trekking- finlakeridingcentre.com For the little ones- Shetland pony rides- partyponiesbyhumaryn.co.uk. Or you could try pony trekking on Dartmoor- also not too far Shilstone Rocks Riding Centre- dartmoorstables.com,

Entertainment for the family- head to to Pennywell farm, lots of lovely animals.  Also Woodlands (Dartmouth), theme park and animal centre. And Crealy (Exmouth) for a larger theme park.

The market towns of Totnes and Dartmouth are nearby and worth a visit if you like boutique shops and cafes. There is the old market town of Ashburton nearby, good for antiques and tea shops, also close to Dartmoor. Haytor Rock on Dartmoor is a place we like to go for walks quite often.

A city visit to Exeter nearby is nice for a museum visit, or a trip to the quayside and a walk along the river to the Welcome Café or Double Locks and Turf Locks pubs alongside the canals are always a good diversion!
